The link of all diseases is chronic inflammation. Inflammation is responsible for atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, dementia, arththritis and cancer. Two plants were found to have anti-inflammatory properties; ginger and turmeric. They do so while protecting normal tissues; one can measure inflammation by a C-reactive blood test.. While some m:dications like statins can reduce inflammation, it is better to consume natural products like ginger and turmeric.
Dr. Michael Ozner leading cardiologist feels that all cardiovascular diseases are preventable through lifestyle changes. We hear a lot about the Keto diet. Is it a good or a bad diet?
The principle is that to burn fat, you have to consume no carbohydtates so that the liver converts stored body fat into molecules. The keto diet involves eating primarily FAT plus a small amount of protein. Carbs are limited to about 50g a dayIt is a boring diet which mostly makes you lose water and not fat. This diet should be taken into serious consideration in many illnesses especially in diabetes, you need a physician to follow this diet in diabetics; there is still controversy whether this diet helps with cancer treatment.. Other side effects of the keto diet is the potential for kidney stones, renal damage and elevated LDL cholesterol. There is a syndrome called “keto flu” which is an electrolyte imbalance that may occur in this diet. In older adults, the deprivation of protein to build muscle is dangerous. Older people need more protein than younger people to prevent frailty, falls and fractures. You need protein for muscle around the midsectin and improved leg strength. To cut protein in the keto diet may mean sacrifying muscle mass to burn a little belly fat.
